Bulldogs Junior Reps Round Five

Some of the headlines from around the grounds for Round Five of the NSWRL’s Junior Representative competitions.

Magpies claim top spot

The Western Suburbs Magpies have finished top of the table after Round Five of the UNE Harold Matthews Cup after an impressive 36-12 win over the Canberra Raiders on Saturday.

Undefeated so far in their 2024 campaign, the Magpies opened their scoresheet early with three tries to Ashton Large, Tyson Walker and Christian Taupau-Moors in the opening 20 minutes to jump out to 18-0.

The Raiders fought back scoring consecutive tries through Lochie Ellard and Cooper Johnston to reduce the gap to 18-12.

Doubles to centre Heamasi Makasini and Walker, as well as Makasini being perfect off the tee kicking six from six , saw the Magpies seal the win.

Bulldogs continue remain undefeated

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have continued to stake their premiership claims in the Westpac Lisa Fiaola Cup with yet another dominant performance (60-0) in strong showing against the North Sydney Bears.

In the opening five rounds of the competition the Bulldogs have scored 240 points (scoring 118 points over the last two weeks alone) and only conceded 40.

Scoring 13 tries across 60 minutes, the Bulldogs didn’t put their foot off the pedal with doubles to winger Asha Taumoepeau-Williams, centre Abbey Fuz and second rower Lahnayah Daniel.

Sitting two points clear on the top of the ladder, with a bye still to come, the Bulldogs have become the team to beat as the competition heads into the back end of the regular season.

Regular season completed for Laurie Daley Cup

The regular season for the SLE Laurie Daley Cup is in the books as clubs now turn their attention to who will be crowned champions for 2024.

The Northern Tigers and Central Coast Roosters have finished at the top of the Northern Pool, both undefeated with four wins and their round three draw which ended up 26-all.

The Tigers and Roosters therefore finished Round Five with a win – the Roosters defeating the Newcastle Maitland Region Knights 40-14, while the Tigers produced a 30-6 win over the Western Rams in the cross-over game.

Similarly in the Southern Pool, the Monaro Colts and Macarthur Wests Tigers finished top of the table on eight points each.

The Macarthur Wests Tigers enjoyed a 24-10 win over the Illawarra South Coast Dragons while the Colts wrapped up their regular season with an impressive 62-12 over the Riverina Bulls.

With the four teams now set to play in the Semi-finals all eyes will be on who progresses to the Grand Final on the 23 March.
