Sydney Red Gold u16s schoolgirls trials
Sydney East School Sport hosted the 2023 NSWCHS Sydney Red / Gold u16s Girls trials at the Bill Delauney Reserve Revesby Heights on Monday.
The growth of schoolgirls rugby league was evident when over 80 schoolgirls trialed.
Four teams were represented, Sydney South east, Sydney North, Sydney West and Sydney South West.
All players were competing for selection to compete for Sydney Red and Sydney Gold u16 Schoolgirls team at the NSWCHS State trials to be held at Collegains Sports stadium, Figtree from Monday 7th – 9th of August.
Then after hopefully being selected in the NSWCHS u16 Schoolgirls team to futher compete at the ASSRL Championships in September up at Port Macquaire along with the u15 Schoolboys.
Monday’s trials were of a high standard, both games were played in the true spirit of rugby league, all players showed respect to each other and to opposition teams.
Championship manager Rachelle Hodder spoke to the players and parents before she announce the Sydney Red u16 schoolgirls team and said she was pleased with the ways the trials went,
Rachelle futher went on to say the girls should be proud of them selves for competing on the day and hoped they will continue to play rugby league into their futures.
In the first game, Sydney South defeated Sydney South West 4 tries to 2 in a tough tight game.
After leading 12 – 8 at half time, the Sydney West girls held thir line and kept Sydney South Sest scoreless in the 2nd half while managing to score again.
There were no pentality goals for these trial games

Game 2 saw Sydney East get it on with Sydney North.
Sydney North started the game at 100 kilometers per hour scoring 2 tries to nil and went into the break looking the goods to kick on in the 2nd half.
A couple positional changers made by Sydney East coach Mr. John Maher we saw a difernet side come out in the 2nd half with some good footy trading blows and tries with Sydney North.
Sydney East continued to swap the lead with Sydney North right up to the final siren the score was 5 tries all, then Sydney North five-eight Meg McPhail crossed to give her side the win.
