Wests Tigers’ junior representative teams continued their good end-of-season form with four of the five teams tasting success.

With one more round to go in the regular season — a replayed Round 7 which was postponed due to inclement weather conditions in Sydney — a number of Wests Tigers’ junior representative teams still remain in the hunt for finals football.

The club’s Tarsha Gale side bounced back from two recent defeats to easily defeat the second-placed Illawarra in Wollongong, with a win next week against the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy taking them past the Steelers on the ladder.

A loss would likely see Wests Tigers finish in either fourth or fifth position.

Both of Balmain and Western Suburbs’ Harold Matthews (U/17’s) sides recorded wins — the Tigers knocking off the Rabbitohs while the Magpies downed the Steelers — to both sit themselves inside the top eight.

With one round remaining, the fourth-placed Magpies can wrap up a top four position if they can defeat the fifth-placed Roosters while the eighth-placed Tigers will need to spring an upset over the top-of-the-table Sea Eagles to secure their finals berth, with the Steelers and Sharks just one point behind on the ladder.

In SG Ball (U/19’s), there was another good result for Balmain as they knocked off the previously-undefeated Rabbitohs 36-20, but the Magpies’ were not as fortunate — running into a red-hot Steelers side who cruised to a 40-10 win.

Heading into the final round in ninth position, Balmain can sneak into the finals if they can upset the third-placed Sea Eagles while also banking on other results.
