Soliola stars as Bulldogs take care of Sharks

A 14-point haul by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs lock Monalisa Soliola headlined a strong performance at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday morning as the home side defeated Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 22-4 in the Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup.

Coming back from the break it was the Bulldogs who kept the foot down as the No. 13 crossed for a double and converted both tries within 10 minutes of the second half.

The Bulldogs were still not finished just minutes from the final whistle when centre Piper Spackman scored their fourth try to round out the 18-point win.

Dragons deny Thunderbolts with comeback win

St George Illawarra Dragons have kept Victoria Thunderbolts from securing their first SG Ball Cup win for 2022, overcoming a 12-point deficit with under 10 minutes remaining in their Round 3 clash at Casey Fields, Melbourne.

The Dragons initially had a 4-0 advantage after centre Tyrell Fakaua scored in the 19th minute, which ended up being the only points of the first half.

Following the halftime break, Victoria opened their account with 16 answered points, including tries to Zayvian Langkilde-Fale, Iakopo Falefitu and Nigel Tuafuti, and two from three conversion attempts by five-eighth Josiah Keni.

Then with little time left in the contest the Red V found a way back as captain Nicholas Quinn, No. 14 Tyree Bowman and centre Jayden Samrani all scored within moments of each other. Fakaua’s conversion in the 61st minute was enough to earn the Dragons an 18-16 win.

NR Titans earn victory in point-scoring shootout

Although suffering two losses in as many weeks of the 2022 SLE Laurie Daley Cup with scores of 18 and 30 points respectively, Northern Rivers Titans are now in the winner’s circle after yet another high scoring match up to beat Northern Tigers 32-26 on Saturday.

After Tigers lock Billy Youman opened the scoring early on, both sides continued trading blows throughout the contest before the Titans ultimately came away with a six-point win at full-time.

Titans second row forward Harry Baker topped the try scorers for the home side with a brace, while Makenzie McGarrigal, Jesse Soric, Lachlan Offley and William James also crossed.
