Sharks Flegg get bitten by Dogs in Rnd 13 defeat

The Jersey Flegg Sharks have suffered a third consecutive defeat in going down by 24-14 to the Bulldogs in their round 13 match.

Played at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday, the Sharks scored in just the third minute, centre Kayal Iro crossing, but from there the Bulldogs asserted control, taking a 12-4 lead to half time before going on with the job in the second period.

The loss was the second for the Sharks against the Bulldogs in 2021 and comes on the back of narrow defeats in matches with the Roosters and Dragons in recent weeks.

After the Dogs had led at the break, a try to Kade Dykes brought the Sharks closer, however the Bulldogs would respond and while Isaac Longmuir’s four-pointer, converted by Kyle Pickering, gave them hope, their opponents would seal the win with a try of their own just two minutes from the final siren.

The inability of the young Sharks outfit to secure wins in close matches, as was the case in the Dragons and Roosters losses, as well as in a drawn match with the third-placed Panthers when the Cronulla side led late into the match, continues to be a frustration for coach Andrew Dallalana and his coaching staff.

The Jersey Flegg Sharks are now becoming desperate for some wins in a bid to stay in touch with the finals aspirants, with their next match against the Panthers in the curtain raiser to the NRL match at Netstrata Stadium on Friday night.
