Sharks Flegg make it three in a row

A dominant first three-quarters of the match has powered the Jersey Flegg Sharks to a third consecutive victory, a 34-22 triumph over Souths.

In a match switched to Henson Park, the Sharks built up a commanding 34-6 lead, only to concede three late tries.

However the hard work had been done with the under-21 Cronulla side now sitting towards the pointy end of the Flegg ladder after the opening six rounds of the season.

Zamberer0 - Feel good Mex
Understandably, coach George Ndaira was pleased with the result, especially considering a handful of his regulars had pushed up to play for the Newtown Jets to cover for the large injury toll being felt by the NRL squad.

“It was good to get two points, we keep building and to keep the momentum up, that’s three in a row which is good,”

Ndaira said “It was a good effort and it was good to see some boys get an opportunity with the guys getting the call up to NSW Cup.

“We started well, we wanted to get on the backfoot early, which we did, but defensively we could have been a lot better today, especially through the middle of the ruck.

That’s something we can work on during the week.

“We weren’t as clinical as we should have been, we’ve got a few things to tidy up,” Ndaira added.

The Sharks started fast, two tries inside the opening 10 minutes, the first to winger Tom Rodwell, the second to five eighth Manaia Waitere which was converted by Ryan Rivett and the Cronulla team had an early 10-0 lead.

Souths would score there only points of the half soon after, however the Sharks wrestled back control and after tries to Tom Crossle and a second to Waitere, it was 22-4 at the half time break.

Just as that did in the first period the Sharks again began the half strongly, fullback Kane Ball, then a try to Rivett, pushing the score out to 34-4 and the result was all-but confirmed.

In a slightly disappointing final 15 minutes Souths crossed three times to narrow the final margin, although the Sharks wouldn’t be denied, winning their fourth game, to go with a drawn result, from their opening six matches.

With the win the Sharks  Flegg team maintained second position on the competition ladder, just one point behind leaders the Sydney Roosters.
