Flegg Sharks find winning form

The Jersey Flegg Sharks have put a couple of disappointing weeks behind them in recording a 30-14 win over Souths in their round eight match played at PointsBet Stadium on Saturday.

A draw in Melbourne, followed by a loss to the Bulldogs was well and truly forgotten by a Sharks side that withstood a spirited challenge in the first half before going on with the job in the second.

The teams went to half time with just two points separating them, the Sharks ahead by 6-4, then a Franklin Pele try in the opening exchanges of the second period gave his team some breathing space, with a controlled final 35 minutes seeing the Cronulla side go on to record their fourth win of the 2021 season.

First points went to the Sharks, centre James Coyne cleverly finishing off an attacking movement in the north-western corner of PointsBet Stadium and when Jonaiah Lualua converting from near touch, his team had an early 6-0 lead.

From that point however Souths enjoyed the better of possession and field position for most of the half, with an uncovered four-pointer to the visitors seeing the Sharks go to the break up by just two points.

Souths responded to the Pele try with one of their own, making the score 12-0 to the Sharks, but the next period of the game would determine the result, Jordan Samrani in his first game at a Flegg level, then hooker Isaac Longmuir crossed and the Sharks had a match winning lead.

Coyne would then score a second with under 10 minutes left on the clock in confirming a victory for the Sharks which sees them remain entrenched inside the top four on the Jersey Flegg ladder.
