Marsden smelt blood in the water in their round three clash, proving too big, too powerful and too crafty for Caloundra as they tracked home victors 42-12.
Lui Lee, the brother of former Maroons centre Brenko Lee, scored a first half double while his centre partner Will Semu finished the day with a hat trick as Marsden ran riot.

An out on the full kickoff wasn’t how Caloundra wanted to start the afternoon and it didn’t take long for Marsden to capitalise with hooker Jacob Tinsley diving over to open the scoring.
Some slick right side Marsden attack was enough for the visitors to score their second through fullback Kylem Vunipola before scoring their third of the afternoon in quick time thanks to second rower Cairo Rangihuna-Ruri.
A great individual break from Semu had him brought down close to the line before a smart run out of dummy half from Lee extended the deficit.
Lee doubled his scoring tally just minutes later to extend the lead to 28-0 heading into the break.
Caloundra opened the second half with some good defensive sets before clawing their way down the field and ending the drive with an individual, powerful try-scoring effort from star forward Zac Garton.
Marsden found their hands on the footy and once again proved too hard to stop with some good link up down the left side from Lee and Semu for him to score his second of the afternoon.
A smart kick from Caloundra captain Tully McLellan and a snatching gather from Garton allowed him to score his second of the afternoon which was followed by two more Marsden tries through Ellijah Leatigaga and Semu securing his hat trick.
Walters Cup: Marsden strucutre proves too hard to overcome
Glimpses of Caloundra flair wasn’t enough to stop a well structured Marsden outfit with the visitors coming away with a round three 28-8 victory.
The match began with some good left side shape from Caloundra’s five-eight Ellyjah Birve saw him hit the replacement and sweeping fullback Kalan Beattie on the outside who got around his man to score in the corner.
Marsden were their own worst enemy in the opening 10 minutes, giving away silly penalties and costly errors but were able to hit back on the scoresheet thanks to some crafty play by hooker Tayshaarn Tonga who helped Cooper Young find the tryline.

Marsden extended their lead 10-4 on the cusp of halftime thanks to a try on the left from Frontier Wiperi.
The Marsden left side attack was quick to capitalise on a Caloundra drop ball close to the line, scoring a simple draw and pass try for winger Fui Taito to score in the corner.
A strip on halfway from Marsden’s Frontier Wiperi saw him burn the Caloundra defensive line for his second try of the match and give Marsden a three try lead.
Caloundra hit back with 10 minutes remaining through replacement centre Deyrell Renouf but a crafty run out of dummy half minutes later from Marsden’s Tayshaarn Tonga was enough for the boys in maroon to put the game out of reach.
Preview: Caloundra relying on home ground advantage against Marsden
Caloundra will be hoping their first ever home ground matchup is enough to put a stop to Marsden‘s undefeated run as the two face off in round three of the 2023 Langer Trophy.
The Sunshine Coast based school has been handed two quick reality checks in the opening rounds going down 42-10 against Wavell and 32-4 to Palm Beach Currumbin.
Marsden come in following a 10-10 draw against Palm Beach Currumbin followed by a gritty 18-14 win last week over Keebra Park.

Marsden head coach Matt Hartigan said he was looking forward to the matchup.
“We were really happy to get the result last week but we still know we’ve got a heap of work to do and we’re just really excited for the opportunity to play against Caloundra in their first ever home game,” he said.

“It’s really good to see how far the competition has come in terms of the geographical spread and I think it will be a really tight defensive tussle that will be won through the middle.
“We know they’ve got a Queensland representative in Zac Garton so we know it’s going to be a tough game but I’m excited for the battle between Garton and Braden Teuila.”
Brooklenn Mundraby-Grogan and Zac Garton of Caloundra SHS.
Caloundra head coach Toby Poole said his team were looking to improve again and had added confidence playing at home.
“I thought we did an excellent job for the first 50 minutes last week as we competed hard and were really in the thick of it,” he said.
“Something that’s new for these guys is maintaining that high intensity for the full match as they don’t get exposed to that a whole lot on the Sunshine Coast.
“Playing at home is very exciting, hopefully we get a good turnout and we’ve already had a few past players and graduates reach out to see what time they should be there which is cool.”

Poole said he hoped his middle forwards could tighten up and limit the influence of Marsden captain Coby Black.
“They’ve got a big and powerful pack Marsden and then they’ve got Coby Black on the back of that playing some shape and is a very well organised and accomplished half back,” he said.
“If we can control their middle, that will hopefully limit Coby’s attacking impact for them.”
In the Walters Cup, Caloundra would be looking for improvement after going down 46-6 against PBC last week, while Marsden went down to Keebra 8-6 following a successful penalty kick after the siren.
