The Canberra Raiders will not hold open trials for junior representative players this year, due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the junior competition structure and the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Although the club remains committed to fulfilling sides in the NSWRL 2021 junior representative competitions, it has been determined a decision on the selection process for the teams will be made once the competition structures have been finalised.

Raiders Recruitment and High-Performance Director Peter Mulholland said the Raiders remained committed to producing and nurturing junior talent and would continue working alongside the NSWRL on the best outcome for 2021.

“The Raiders are a club that have a wonderful history of developing young talent and bringing them through the system into the NRL,” Mulholland said. “Unfortunately, the situation this year with Coronavirus and a review of the junior pathways system, we’re not in a position to hold open trials for junior representative players for 2021.

“We’ll continue to work closely with the NSWRL to see what the junior pathway competitions will look like in 2021 and then we can finalise a plan for the Raiders participation in these competitions.”

“What we do want to reiterate is that there is definitely still one of the best junior pathways available here, through the Raiders and through rugby league in this region.”
