Manly Warringah Sea Eagles will enter a team in the 2023 NSWRL Tarsha Gale Cup, the Under 19 female junior representative competition, for the first time in the Club’s history.

Entry into the NSWRL competition will be the first step in the creation of a complete Sea Eagles female pathway with the intention to apply for a NRLW licence for the 2025 season.

“The Sea Eagles Centre of Excellence was, in part, designed, to support female rugby league with our facility able to cater for both men’s and women’s teams,’’ said Manly CEO Tony Mestrov.

“Central to our strategy is to establish a sustainable pipeline of talented local juniors that can support a future Manly Warringah Sea Eagles NRLW team.”

NRL Head Coach Des Hasler is looking forward to chartering new territory by overseeing the club’s first-ever female pathway program.

“We’ve looked closely at a pathway for women for some time, with Covid delaying the club’s timeline, so it’s pleasing that we’re now able to move forward with a Tarsha Gale Cup team next season,’’ Hasler said.

Elite Pathways Manager Kristie Fulton said that Manly will have a dual focus on the skill development of promising female players through the Sea Eagles Academy along with taking a prominent role in the growth of girls junior rugby league.

“Girls tackle rugby league is in its infancy on the Northern Beaches. We’ll work closely with key partners on participation activities aimed to encourage, develop and inspire as many young women as possible to take part in the greatest game of all,” Fulton said.

The Sea Eagles 2023 Tarsha Gale Cup Squad Invitational trial will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen.

The trial opportunity is available to girls turning 18 or 19 in 2023.

To register your interest, please complete this registration form by 5pm, Monday 12 September. Successful applicants will be contacted via the email address provided on Wednesday 14 September.
