Record numbers to Try League in Parramatta

A record number of 40 participants will take part in NSWRL’s Try League program for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities at Parramatta, tomorrow (Wednesday 20 October)

The clinic, to be held at Old Sale Yards Reserve, is part of a five-program blitz which started last week and is being conducted across the state in Coffs Harbour, Lismore, The Ponds and Minchinbury.

“Try League is a program that has quickly gained a reputation as a fun, safe and inclusive activity for CALD communities since its inception in 2018 and we are very proud as an organisation to administer it in different areas across NSW,” NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said.

“It is fantastic to see so many children from traditional non-Rugby League backgrounds becoming involved and enjoying themselves in the process.

“The fact that there is a record-breaking number of participants for the Parramatta area coming along tomorrow is a testament to the program’s success.”

The Try League program is backed by Federal and State Government funding and aims to break down the barriers and social isolation for people from diverse backgrounds by introducing them to a non-competitive format of Rugby League.

The pilot program took place in 2018 and involved 70 children but there have since been seven programs involving more than 200 children at areas including Blacktown, Parramatta, Minchinbury, Fairfield and Revesby.
