Wests Tigers women defeat Bulldogs in Elimination Final

Author : Caitlyn Grant

Wests Tigers have secured a 20-10 victory over the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs in their Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership Elimination Final today at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Neil Stanley’s side put on a strong defensive effort throughout the 60 minutes – keeping the visitors at bay for a significant part of the match.

It was Patricia Raikadroka who opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes for Wests Tigers, before Christine Kani made it two tries in two weeks to extend the hosts’ lead. Canterbury fullback Haneen Zreika hit back to bring the score to 10-6, which is how the two sides would enter the sheds at half-time.

With Sia Seumanifagai ruled out for the game with an unfortunate achilles injury, Wests Tigers were made to defend their line for the majority of the second half before eventually working the ball down field to go on the attack.

They would make the most of that chance too, with Sophie Curtain continuing her good form to extend the home side’s lead back out to ten points.

Quincy Dodd would hit back for the visitors to set up a grandstand finish, before Ana Fekila’s long-range effort in the dying moments put the game beyond doubt.
