Sharks score big win over the Maggies

The SG Ball Sharks have shown they are far from a spent force in the NSWRL under-19’s competition with a dominant victory over the Wests Magpies in their round eight clash.

The Sharks scored two tries in the first 10 minutes, conceded two to give up their early advantage, but then well and truly went on with the job in registering a 54-18 thumping of the Magpies.

Fullback Kade Dykes continued his impressive try scoring run in notching three of his team’s nine four-pointers, while Sam Stonestreet and Jordan Samrani also managed to get across the stripe twice in the Sharks win.

Half back Ryan Rivett kicked nine goals from as many attempts in a perfect afternoon with the boot.

After Wests had levelled the scores some 18 minutes into the contest, the Sharks would put the foot down and assert their dominance, Samrani scoring his two tries before the break and when hooker Kobie Wilson also touched down it was 30-12 at the break.

From that point it was all the home team, Dykes crossing twice, while his teammate Stonestreet did likewise in running up the score, before a late consolation try to the Magpies narrowed the final margin.

The win has kept the Sharks in touch with the top six but still needing wins in their final two matches, against the Panthers and Eels to qualify for the SG Ball finals.
