A tense Grand Final played on a hot day at Camden proved to be an exciting and physical contest. Both teams trading blows in a tough first half.

Xavier Terides scored an amazing try in the 12th minute to open the scoring, with the ball passing through multiple hands from the right edge all the way to a diving try in the left corner.

Matraville were given some easy field position from a mistake and scored a try under the post which gave them the lead after their conversion.

Following this, the boys had to dig deep to save tries in consecutive plays with Xavier and Liam Taupo bringing an opponent down 1 metre from our line before Le-Vaughn Stanley-Ligaiviu saved a certain try on his opposite side of the field with an amazing last ditch effort.

This took us to the break, down 6-4.

The second half started positively with a great break from Carter Studdon, slicing through the line before passing to Le-Vaughn, who bumped off the fullback to score a great try from 40 metres out.

Le-Vaughn then scored his second off a nice pass from Zuma Wever, angling him back against the grain off a scrum.

With plenty to do, he beat multiple defenders displaying both agility and strength which earned him Man of the Match.

We then had a skilful try scored by Leki Mackay-Filihia after an attacking kick from Zuma Wever.

Fletcher Holbrook chased hard and pounced on the bouncing ball before a nice pass to Leki who scored in the corner.

The rest of the half saw our defence hold up strong, forcing multiple mistakes through our contact and line speed.

Our last try by Austin Havili-Kaufusi was scored late in the game and again in the left hand corner, after another fantastic shift from the left edge with a nice draw and pass from Hunter Stanley to finish it off, with a final score of 24 – 6.

An amazing effort throughout the whole competition, with each member of the greater squad playing a significant role in our success. It has been a pleasure to coach a great group of young men who will continue to improve in the future.
