In order to secure their first win of the season, Bass High coach Jon Wilson said the team will put more “emphasis on defense in the middle,” which he claimed was “fairly poor” against St Dom’s.

Along with consolidating tactics, halfback Jonathan Sua and backrower Mitchell Taotua will be players to look out for, with Wilson having called them “strike weapons.”

Hunter Sports coach Craig Martine said the weather and school holidays have affected the teams’ training.

“The first day back is our training session day and that’s a pupil free day, so we’re going straight to this game with not much preparation,” he said.

Despite this, Martine said the team’s game plan will be to remain consistent for the duration of the 80 minutes and “not let teams off the hook when we feel that we are getting on top a little bit.”

He added that the opposition will need to keep an eye out for Hunter Sports’ center Connor Votano.

“With an early ball he can be pretty dangerous,” he said.

The clash will be the second in a double header at Maitland which kicks off at 11am with All Saints, Maitland up against Patrician Brothers, Fairfield.
