Girls teams named for Queensland Under 17 City versus Country clash

Queensland Rugby League has today announced the City and Country teams for the Under 17 girls match on September 24.

The clash at Moreton Daily Stadium kicks off an entertaining four-game program that also features the Queensland Under 17 City versus Country boys match, as well as the Hastings Deering Colts and Hostplus Cup grand finals.

Former Queensland and Australian representative Deanna Turner returns to coach the talented City team for a second year.

Turner is highly regarded for her work with the state’s emerging talent involved in Queensland’s female pathway programs.

Guiding the fortunes of the Country line-up is Amanda Ohl, one of the BMD Premiership’s leading coaches.

Ohl this year took the Central Queensland Capras to the grand final of the state’s premier women’s competition, where it took a stunning final minute try by the North Queensland Gold Stars to deny Central Queensland.

Both City and Country teams will feature numerous players who took part in the Harvey Norman Under 19 competition this year.

Players who have excelled in community competitions have also been identified by the QRL performance and pathways team led by Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons head coach Tahnee Norris.

Norris said there would be some great young talent on display in both sides.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how the two teams match up on the day,” Norris said.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for all players to learn from the camp environment during the week, and further develop their own game and skills leading into next year’s Harvey Norman Under 19s and BMD Premiership competitions.

“We’re proud to have a genuine pathway through our representative program and hopefully we’ll see future Maroons come through from this group of talented players.”
