Panthers advance to semi finals

The Panthers are locked in for the semi finals of both the Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup following their results in finals week one.

After reaching the finals of both competitions in the same season for the first time, the Panthers have now penciled their name in for week two of the play-offs, where each team will face local rivals Parramatta.

The Panthers progressed in the Lisa Fiaola Cup (Under-17s) with a comeback win in their elimination final, while a qualifying final loss sees Penrith enter the knockout phase of the Tarsha Gale Cup (Under 19s).

The Lisa Fiaola team, who reached the top eight in sixth place, came from behind to defeat the Knights 22-16 in an elimination final at Windsor.

The Panthers fell to an early 16-6 deficit, before rallying back with three unanswered tries before halftime. Penrith kept Newcastle at bay in a scoreless second half, holding on for victory to secure a semi final ticket.

The Tarsha Gale side, who finished fourth and faced Illawarra in a qualifying final, suffered a 32-4 defeat to the minor premiers in Wollongong.

An early second-half try kept the Panthers in the contest, but the Steelers finished strongly to earn a week off and advance directly to the preliminary finals.

The two Panthers teams will face Parramatta Eels in sudden-death semi finals on Saturday 19 April at Blacktown International Sports Park.

Panthers junior reps results round 1

The Panthers opened their 2025 Junior Reps campaign with all four grades facing Cronulla at HE Laybutt Sporting Complex, Blacktown on Saturday.

The Panthers female sides kicked off the season in style with wins in the Lisa Fiaola Cup and Tarsha Gale Cup, while the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup teams showed plenty of positive signs in defeat.

Round 2 of the Junior Reps season will see the female sides face Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, with the male teams tackling the Warriors.

SG Ball Cup

Panthers 18 – 26 Sharks

The Panthers were chased down by the Sharks in a 26-18 season-opening defeat.

The Panthers found themselves on the attack from the outset, and took the early opportunity with both hands.

The Panthers staged a perfect backline play, as fullback Jack Attard found winger Harry Wald with a cut-out pass to open the scoring.

Halfback Cooper Black cut through Cronulla’s defence with a show-and-go in his own half, before putting a chip-and-chase over the Sharks fullback. He came close to completing a stunning try, but a poor bounce forced him to settle for a dropout.

Sustained pressure eventually paid off for the Panthers, as prop Hokafonu Lemoto crashed over and muscled his way to the try line. Jack Attard’s conversion made it a 10-0 lead after 18 minutes.

A kick-off error put the Panthers straight back on the attack, and they continued to convert chances into points.

Hunter Bell scored the Panthers third try, skipping through the Sharks defence with speed and skill on the left edge.

Harry Wald appeared to have scored a spectacular second try when he soared onto Jhett Sydir’s kick out wide, but a cruel knock-on ruling denied him.

It proved a big moment for the Sharks, who moved the ball upfield and scored an important try for a flattering 14-6 scoreline at the break.

The Sharks took another bite out of the Panthers lead early in the second half, their second try narrowing the margin to two points.

Just as the Sharks returned to attacking territory and set their sights on the lead, Panthers centre Tua Patea took a crucial intercept and sprinted 90 metres to the try line.

However the visitors bounced back again, scoring another two tries to hit a 24-18 with 10 minutes remaining.

The Panthers pushed for late points to snatch a result, but it was not to be as a penalty goal sealed the deal for Cronulla.

FULL-TIME: Panthers 18 – 26 Sharks

Harold Matthews Cup

Panthers 16 – 30 Sharks

A positive start was not enough for the Panthers as they suffered a 30-16 loss to the Sharks in Round 1.

The Panthers got off to a flying start, forcing an error from the kick-off and scoring with their first possession.

Cruz Death darted out of dummy half on the last tackle of a perfectly executed attacking set, and punished the Sharks defence with the opening try.

Halfback Owen Knowles added the conversion for an early 6-0 lead.

After completing their first defensive assignment of the day, the Panthers went back on the attack and scored their second.

The crafty Cruz Death delivered out of dummy half again, as his pinpoint service sent prop Talmage Brown over the stripe. Another Knowles conversion made it a 12-point lead in as many minutes.

The Sharks recovered from their slow start, finishing the first half strongly with back-to-back tries to level the scores at halftime.

Picking up where they left off, the Sharks returned from half-time with enthusiasm.

The visitors capitalised on some sluggish Panthers play, bagging another pair of tries to hit a 24-12 lead.

Leo-Stipe Latu took matters into his own hands to keep the Panthers in the contest, surging through six defenders and scoring a powerful try.

However, the Sharks eventually put the game to bed with a fortunate try in the latter stages.

Panthers 18 – 10 Sharks

The Panthers defied the odds in an unlikely 18-10 comeback victory over Cronulla in Round 1.

Madison Wilson was the difference with a heroic hat-trick in the final 15 minutes, after a trailing Panthers side seemed down and out for much of the second half.

Cronulla dominated and led for much of the second half, before Wilson’s three late tries snatched an unlikely win.

After a cagey start to the match, the Panthers right edge rolled up the sleeves to put their team on the front foot.

When the Sharks made a threatening line break out wide, Panthers centre Samantha Hanrahan crunched Cronulla’s runaway winger over the sideline.

The Panthers took possession, and some crafty second-phase play and ball movement paved the way for second-rower Jennifer Tuilagi to storm to the try line.

The Sharks responded shortly before half-time, locking up the scores at 4-4.

The Panthers had their backs to the wall for much of the second half, with momentum favouring Cronulla comfortably.

Shortly after the break, the Sharks took a 10-4 lead through fullback Kirrawahn Duckett.

The visitors were well placed to finish the job, dominating possession and field position for extended periods.

That was, until Panthers winger Madison Wilson tipped the game on its head.

The Panthers took full advantage of a rare attacking opportunity with 15 minutes to play by spreading the ball wide, where Wilson touched down and reduced the deficit to two points.

After conceding possession from the kick-off, the Panthers were forced to soak up more Sharks pressure.

From a scrum inside their own red zone, the Panthers boldly shifted the ball to the wing.

Wilson took possession, burst outside her opposite number, and dashed 90 metres untouched to snatch the lead.

The Panthers had work to do with 10 minutes remaining, but kept their composure and held Cronulla at arm’s length.

In the final play of the day, the Panthers put the icing on the cake. Fittingly, Madison Wilson completed her hat-trick to seal an outstanding comeback win for the Panthers.

Lisa Fiaola Cup

Panthers 26 – 10 Sharks

The Panthers kicked off the 2025 season in tremendous style, dominating the Sharks in a 26-10 triumph.

A physical performance saw the Panthers come away with a six-tries-to-two victory, with Tia-Jane Golding, Anita Ropati and Kayla Horvat standing out.

The Panthers showed their class early on, as an outstanding cut-out pass by captain Tia-Jane Golding sent winger Kiah Taotofi over for the opening try.

Momentum turned in Cronulla’s favour, but the Panthers impressive last-ditch defence kept the visitors at bay.

Kayla Horvat, Betsey Fifita and Isabella Ferguson led the Panthers out of danger and back up the field, where Kyla Pasene showed her strength to score a big try. Isabella Ferguson added the conversion to put the Panthers ahead 10-0 22 minutes.

The Panthers found themselves back on the attack within minutes, and landed another blow on the stroke of halftime.

Tia-Jane Golding placed a clever kick over the top of the Sharks compressed defensive line, and Violet Hiku pounced to hand the Panthers a 14-0 half-time lead.

The Panthers hit the ground running in the second half, with Anita Ropati scoring a quickfire double to open the floodgates.

The boom centre slammed the ball down from a backline play in the first minute of the half, before scoring the try of the day moments later.

Shifting the football left from a midfield scrum, five-eighth Patricia Heihei unleashed Ropati with a great short pass. Ropati exploded into the backfield and dashed away to make it 22-0.

As the second half unfolded, the Panthers flexed their defensive muscles. The Sharks were shut down by the Panthers physicality on several occasions, with big tackles from Vasaliva Feleti, Violet Hiku and Kyla Pasene.

Cronulla eventually pulled one back through Tahli Weigand, but the Panthers were already out of reach.

Vasaliva Feleti put an exclamation point on the impressive outing, bulldozing through the defence for a barnstorming sixth Panthers try.

Although the Sharks snagged a late consolation try, a crunching tackle by Violet Hiku in the closing stages brought the crowd to its feet and typified a dominant Panthers display.

Panthers Junior Reps Results Round 1

The Panthers kicked off the Junior Representative season with four matches against the Dragons at BlueBet Stadium.

TARSHA GALE CUP

Panthers 40 def. Dragons 0

The Panthers sealed their third win of the day on Saturday afternoon at BlueBet Stadium when the Tarsha Gale side won convincingly against the Dragons.

They started off on fire, and never took their foot off the pedal in a comprehensive shutout victory at home. Mesha Fretton and Julie Notise shone in attack whilst the edges were impossible to break defensively.

The forwards dominated, and their defence the whole game was top notch, not allowing Dragons any chances.

MyPlace’s Air Systems

First points came in the 5th minute, when Mesha Fretton crashed over after she retrieved a loose ball up above her head. She gained clean possession and scored under the post. Conversion successful, 6-0.

Just three minutes later, the Panthers were in again, when Julie Notisse tiptoed down the sideline to score an impressive try in the corner and extend the lead. Conversion unsuccessful, 10-0.

Jaida Staben broke the line

In the 13th minute, Jaida Staben broke the line with a sharp bit of footwork.

She was taken down ten metres out from the line, Mesha Fretton took over setting up a nice try for Vineta Tiatia with a bit of deception, finding Tiatia with the short ball and she crashed over.

Conversion successful, 16-0.

Four minutes later, Julie Notise had her first of two major contributions on the defensive end, when she stopped Alaiyah Williams from crashing over from close range.

It was a great one on one stop that kept Dragons scoreless through the first 15 minutes.

Notise continued to be dominant in this game, going down the sideline again before a late offload found Mackenzie Doust who fell over untouched for the fourth try of the game.

Conversion unsuccessful, 20-0.

The game continued to go the way of Penrith, when Daisy Mckeon took it out of dummy half from close range to crash over, the Dragons defenders unable to hold her up.

Penrith were in for their 5th try of the game. Conversion successful, 26-0.

In the 43rd minute, Aaliyah Tahu-apiata punched straight through from 10 metres out and scored, extending the lead. Conversion successful, 32-0.

Just four minutes later, it was Daisy McKeon who provided the ball to Jaida Staben for another Penrith try.

She popped out and found Staben on a short ball and she crashed over from close range.

Conversion unsuccessful, 36-0.

The points kept flowing in the 51st minute when Montana McLean probed at the Dragons defence before opening up a gap for Taylor Keppie who went straight through from 10 metres out and scored, extending the lead.

Conversion unsuccessful, 40-0.

The Dragons got what looked to be their first chance when Juanita Jang went through with two minutes remaining in the half, but once again it was Julie Notise to the rescue with a huge 1-on-1 stop.

SG BALL CUP

Dragons 26 def. Panthers 24

In a thrilling season opener, the SG Ball Panthers went down to the St George Dragons 24-26 at BlueBet Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Edgar and Hokafonu Lemoto were all over attack and defensive for the Panthers, with the side working well together to showcase their impressive strength and power early.

An early run from Panthers Jenson Tuaoi in the 5th minute did not rattle the Dragons defence, with the away side quickly stopping the hooker in his tracks from crossing the line.

Dragons player Tyler Peckham-Harris opened the scoring in the 15th minute, with the fullback unable to be stopped, powering over the Panthers right-side defence to put the first points on the boards.

Conversion unsuccessful. 4-0.

Another two quick tries in the next seven minutes saw the Dragons extend their lead to 16.

Hokafonu Lemoto showed his determination

Hokafonu Lemoto showed his determination to etch his side back into the game, with a strong charge through the Dragons’ middle defence saw the backrower put the ball over the line.

A successful conversion from Harry Wald brought the home side’s points to 6.

Lemoto continued his impressive game with a late offload to Jack Attard who put a clean pass through to Panthers fullback Jaxen Edgar, who flew past the Dragons defensive line to secure the final points before the half-time whistle.

Lemoto’s impressive play continued as he offloaded to Jack Attard, who passed cleanly to Penrith fullback Jaxen Edgar. Flying past the Dragons’ defence, Edgar secured the final points before halftime.

Kicking off the second half in style Panthers captain Jack Ewer pushed his team into the lead for the first time in the game, with a nice cut-out ball seeing the lock swiftly finding himself over the line. Conversion successful, 18-16.

The Panthers utilised their bench following Ewer’s try with the Saturday afternoon heat clearly taking its toll on both teams.

In the 47th minute, Edgar outclassed the Dragons front line, breaking through the middle from the opposition’s 30 metre line.

A clean-cut pass to Attard on the right saw the duo steer clear of the Dragons defence, with a short pass back to Edgar creating an open space in goals for his second try of the game.

Harry Wald’s kicking game was on fire

Harry Wald’s kicking game was on fire, successfully converting again. 24-16.

The Panthers dominance was quickly challenged by the Dragons as a small hole in their defence brought the opposition closer to their home line.

Following two close calls for the Dragons, with three players held up in goals, did not slow the side down.

A quick 4th tackle play created space for a clean pass to winger Zachariah Nachar, who dived over the line for a corner post try in the 53rd minute.

Conversion unsuccessful, 24-20.

The Panthers suffered the loss of their captain Jack Ewer to an HIA during the break of play, with Jenson Tuaoi brought back onto the field.

The home side then absorbed a mountain of pressure fighting to the final minutes to remain in control of the game, defending their try line for a tough 10 minutes.

In the dying final minutes, the Dragons found themselves over the try line three times, however, all attempts were held up by the powerful home side defence.

With 45 seconds left on the clock, The Panthers’ defensive efforts proved not strong enough with Dragons five-eighth Shadi Hammound finding a small gap to force his way into goal.

The captain did not let the noise and pressure from the crowd phase him, converting his try to secure a Dragons Round 1 victory.

HAROLD MATTHEWS CUP

Panthers 44 def. Dragons 4

The Panthers Harold Matthews side sealed a comprehensive victory in Round 1 of the competition, beating the Dragons 44-4 at BlueBet stadium on Saturday.

It was a brilliant display of skill from start to finish, with halves Jhett Sydir and Cedric Peti-Tafola putting in dominant performances.

In the 3rd minute, Jhett Sydir opened up the Dragons defence with a step and a fend before finding his fullback, Jayden Carter, on the inside to give the Panthers their opening points.

Conversion successful, 6-0.

The Panthers absorbed a couple of minutes of pressure on their goal line after multiple repeat sets and conceded penalties. After showing plenty of resolve in defence, the Panthers forced a Dragons error, regaining possession.

The next points came in the 16th minute, when a loose ball was retrieved by Penrith captain Hunter Bell.

He found a gap in the defence

He found a gap in the defence and went straight through, before beating the Dragons fullback one on one to extend the lead.

Conversion successful, 12-0.

The Dragons hit back just a few sets later, when a late offload from back rower Ratu Villiame Koroitamana found the quick hands of Ahmad Assaad who put Lucas Golovodovski over in the corner.

Conversion unsuccessful, 12-4.

The second half started in similar fashion, when in the 34th minute, Charbel Kheirallah had a brilliant carry, offloading for Peti-tafola to break through the defence. Peti-Tafola found Sydir in support and the Panthers went over again. Conversion successful, 18-4.

In the very next set,the home side scored again, starting with a huge backline shift and finishing as a brilliant team try.

Peti-Tafola found Heinz Lemoto down the short side, Lemoto offloaded for Iakopo who broke down the sideline, before drawing the fullback in, passing back inside for Peti-Tafola who finished a brilliant short side raid.

Conversion unsuccessful, 22-4.

Peti-Tafola set Jahziah Palmer-Vaivalo up to score just a couple minutes later.

Sydir started it

Sydir started it, with a brilliant ball to Peti-Tafola who put Palmer-Vaivalo over with a sharp ball five metres in from touch.

Peti-Tafola had three try involvements in a seven minute space to take the lead out to 24 by the 42nd minute.

Conversion successful, 28-4.

The game went into a holding pattern for the next ten minutes with both sides making errors, and neither team getting a chance to attack the line.

In the 53rd minute, the Panthers second run of consecutive tries started when Roman Tuiamau crashed over from close range. Conversion successful, 34-4.

The Dragons tried a short kick off, which bounced above everyone, before Cameron Bamblett snatched it out of the air, and found clear space in front of him.

Cover defenders came across, but he found Sydir inside, who had one to beat with 25 metres still to go. Steven Whalan emerged in support and the Panthers scored again.

Conversion unsuccessful, 38-4.

The Panthers then put the icing on the cake in the final minute, when Jhett Sydir finished his dominant performance with another line break, taken down 20 metres out from the Dragons line.

Off the very next play Heinz Lemoto crashed over under the sticks making it 42-4.

Jayden Carter’s conversion was successful, 44-4.

LISA FIAOLA CUP

Panthers 36 def. Dragons 0

It was a perfect start to the Panthers’ Lisa Fiaola Cup campaign, with the home side scoring seven unanswered tries to thrash the Dragons by 36 points at BlueBet Stadium.

Panthers centre Hannah Ison was impressive throughout the 60 minutes as she bagged a hat-trick, while Jade Elford starred at fullback with a double.

Ison opened the scoring after just seven minutes before Fatafehi-Marie Mahe double the Panthers’ advantage in the 21st minute.

Mya Muller was successful with both conversions.

Tries to Elford on either side of half-time gave the Panthers a 22-point lead to put the home side in a great position.

With victory all-but-secured, Alyssa Gibbons scored a four-pointer and Ison completed her hat-trick late in the second half.

Penrith Panthers was pleased to announce the junior representative award winners at the club’s presentation event on Tuesday night.

Panthers recognised the efforts of all who contributed to the club’s Junior Representative program, across the Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Tarsha Gale Cup competitions.

SG Ball Panthers overpower Warriors

Penrith Panthers have come from behind to overcome a serious challenge from the New Zealand Warriors, winning 24-16 in the SG Ball at St Marys Leagues Stadium in hot Sunday afternoon conditions.

The Panthers made a strong start, capitalising on early field position when Luke Hanson set up Nick Murphy with a glorious cut out in the 4th minute. Riley Pollard converted from the sideline to give them a 6-0 advantage.

Win 1 of 3 Supporter Packs

Repeated errors by the Panthers gave the Warriors multiple opportunities and their defence finally cracked when Selumiela Halasima charged through to score in the 17th minute.

Continued ill-discipline hurt the Panthers again in the 26th minute, conceding a try to Etuate Fukofuka underneath the posts following back-to-back penalties.

A stroke of luck helped the Panthers on the half-hour mark, with the Warriors unable to handle a towering bomb.

Wilson de Courcey collected the ball and raced over to score, drawing level at 12-all, where the scores remained at half time.

The second half developed into an arm wrestle as both teams struggled with the heat.

The Warriors came close to scoring

The Warriors came close to scoring through Ratu Saimone Naborisi when he made a break off a kick, only for Timothy Sielaff-Burns to produce a trysaver on his own 20.

The Panthers defence finally cracked shortly after the drinks break, with Fukofuka surging over for his second.

A high tackle by Warriors forward Ben Peni saw him sent to the sin bin with 15 minutes remaining, however the Panthers inability to complete their sets saw them unable to take advantage.

A run of possession gave the Panthers some much-needed momentum and they finally broke through when Cooper Ferrari grounded a grubber. Pollard converted from out wide to take the lead back, 18-16.

A try to Sielaff-Burns with two minutes remaining to Sielaff-Burns wrapped up the win, with Pollard again converting from touch to make the final score 24-16.

Panthers Thrilling finish sees Harold Matthews draw

Penrith Panthers have been left to rue a missed opportunity in the Harold Matthews Cup, giving up a 24-12 lead with seven minutes remaining to draw 24-all against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at BlueBet Stadium.

An error by Souths from the Panthers first attacking kick presented the home side with perfect field position in the opening minutes.

A shift to the right from the ensuing set saw Cooper Hale open the scoring inside three minutes.

They went close to scoring twice shortly after but were denied by errors both times.

The Rabbitohs made them pay, going the length of the field to score in the next set, locking the scores at 6-all.

A Harry Wald try from a slick cut-out pass put the Panthers back in front nine minutes before half time.

Strong defence from the Panthers

Strong defence from the Panthers in the dying minutes of the half saw them hold onto the 12-6 lead until the break.

The Panthers were unable to repeat the dose in the opening minutes of the second half, conceding a try following repeat sets to bring the scores back to 12-all.

The Panthers took back the lead in the 44th minute when a good short ball sent Kye Raven over under the posts.

That gave the Panthers the momentum and they charged down the field in the following set, scoring under the posts again through Charbel Kheirallah.

Penrith’s defence was again put under pressure following repeat sets, and despite Wald booting a drop out 65m, the Rabbitohs were able to capitalise when the Panthers failed to clean up a grubber.

The conversion brought the score back to 24-18 with seven minutes left.

The Rabbitohs scored again with 90 seconds left, with Daniel Lua diving over on the last next to the posts.

Matt Humphries converted to bring scores level at 24-all.

The Panthers opted for a short kick-off inside the final 20 seconds, but kicked out on the full, giving the Rabbitohs an opportunity to kick the penalty goal from halfway to steal the win.

The kick hit the upright, leaving the teams to share the points.

The Panthers had a successful afternoon in the Junior Reps, claiming two wins and a draw at Mascot Oval.

SG Ball Panthers make it three from three

A late flurry of tries has seen the Penrith Panthers claim their third-straight win to open the SG Ball season, thrashing St George 38-12 on a hot Saturday afternoon at Mascot Oval.

The game was in the balance with Penrith leading 14-12 15 minutes before full time, before they piled on four late tries to claim the comprehensive victory.

The Panthers put themselves under a lot of pressure early, conceding multiple penalties to put St George on the attack.

The Dragons took full advantage of the field position, scoring next to the posts in the 5th minute through Loko Pasifiki Tonga to take a 6-0 lead.

It took the Panthers until midway through the first half before they had a decent chance to attack, but they were quick to capitalise when Luke Hanson set up Hudson Brown with a good short ball.

Riley Pollard converted from out wide to bring the scores to 6-all.

With momentum on their side, the Panthers began to look better in attack, with only desperate Dragons defence stopping Jenson Tuaoi from scoring late in the half.

A penalty on the siren saw Pollard add an extra two points to give the Panthers an 8-6 lead at the break.

Another deft short ball put Poutua Hotere-Papalii into space, before he found Tuaoi to score under the posts to extend the margin beyond a converted try.

The eight-point lead was short-lived though, with an error off the kick off giving St George perfect field position.

Shadi Hammoud outleapt the defence from a kick to cut the margin back to 14-12.

The Panthers quickly hit back when Luron Patea crashed over under the posts from close range, before scoring again in identical fashion five minutes later to push the margin to 26-12.

Well-deserved tries to Hanson and Timothy Seilaff-Burns in the dying minutes extended the lead to 38-12, with Pollard celebrating a perfect afternoon with the boot, kicking seven from seven.

The Panthers recorded their second win of the season on Saturday morning, reasserting their reputation as a formidable attacking force with a 28-18 triumph..

Fullback Jaxen Edgar was everywhere in the Panthers victory, while barnstorming props Charbel Kheirallah and Hokafonu Lemoto ensured the Dragons defence was always on the backfoot.

A number of offside penalties by both teams meant the match started as an end-to-end affair.

Finally, in the 11th minute, the Panthers broke the deadlock as Casey Mclean ran a beautiful outside-inside line.

Beating numerous tackles to sprint 25 metres and score the first points of the match. Conversion by Jacob Kelly successful, 0-6.

Jaxen Edgar continued his strong form and extended the lead in the 16th minute, when he dummied to his outside men and stepped off his right foot to break the line and score his fourth try of the season.

Conversion unsuccessful, 0-10.

The Dragons hit back in the 20th minute, when a nice offload allowed Risiate Smythe to muscle his way over under the posts. Conversion successful, 6-10.

The Panthers continued to gift the Dragons attacking opportunities through cheap errors and the defensive line broke again in the 24th minute.

When the home team put on an attacking move off a scrum and winger Ralph Binge dove over in the right corner. Conversion unsuccessful, 10-10.

Strong defence by the Panthers denied an attacking barrage in the final seconds of the first half, meaning the two teams went into the sheds all locked up.

Strong runs by Cooper Hale and Jacob Kelly marched the Panthers up the field in their first set of the second half.

Two repeat sets allowed the away team to show their attacking prowess and a fantastic short ball from Jaxen Edgar to a rampaging Danny Johnstone gave the Panthers the perfect start to the half.

Conversion successful, 10-16.

A nice shift to the right put the Dragons back in the game as Omar Dennaoui crossed in the 40th minute. Conversion unsuccessful, 14-16.

The Panthers took little time to extend their lead as a late offload allowed Jack Attard to streak away, showing excellent acceleration to burn the Dragons defence in the 42nd minute.

Conversion successful, 14-22.

The Panthers capitalised on more good field position with a sweeping right-side shift.

The ball went through almost every pair of hands in the backline before Marcellus Iakopo dove over to score his team’s fifth try of the day.

Beautiful conversion by Jacob Kelly to seal the game, 28-14 with three minutes to play.

The Dragons would go on to score a consolation try as the hooter sounded, but it wouldn’t be enough to affect the outcome, Panthers with their second victory in three games.

The Penrith Panthers have and St George Dragons have played out a nail-biting 14-all draw on a hot Saturday afternoon at Mascot Oval.

The Panthers got off to a strong start, dominating the opening ten minutes of the match, but strong St George defence prevented them from scoring.

The good start was undone four minutes after when a penalty gave St George an opportunity to score out wide through Saja Refei.

The Panthers put themselves under more pressure shortly after as errors began to creep into their game, however their defence was strong enough to prevent the Dragons scoring again.

A Dragons error gave the Panthers a chance to go on the attack and they capitalised when Montana McLean saw space behind the markers and raced through to score.

Jaida Staben converted the difficult kick to take the lead 6-4.

They turned it into a double blow a set later when Yasmine Baker sliced through to score, giving the Panthers a 10-4 lead at half time.

The Panthers immediately put themselves under pressure to start the second half, making a mistake from the kick off.

The Dragons made them pay, with Mele Ketuu crossing out wide to cut the deficit to two.

Under pressure, Montana Clifford took it upon herself to inspire the Panthers with a huge hit to force an error.

McLean was next to come up with a big play, earning a fifth-tackle penalty with a great run from dummy-half.

A shift in the ensuing set saw Bella McEacherm score out wide to push the lead back to a converted try.

An error off a kick again forced the Panthers to defend their own line, however they were unable to stop Taneisha Gray from close range.

Saja Refei converted to bring the scores level at 14-all with seven minutes remaining.

Both teams had chances to score in the dying minutes, however desperate goal line defence ensured the points would be shared.

Panthers Juniors incidents drop significantly

Panthers Junior League is pleased to announce a drop of 64 per cent in on and off-field incidents since the conception of the Creating Positive Culture Conference in 2020.

The junior rugby league conference, aimed at forming positive outcomes, was launched in 2020 across the under-14s and under-15s competitions.

Since then, those age divisions have seen a drop of 60 per cent in incidents in 2021, followed by 64 per cent last year.

Code of conducts have been reduced from a total of 26 in 2020 to just one in 2021 and four in 2022.

The change of behaviour is credited to the Creating Positive Culture Conference, which will again take place ahead of the upcoming season on Mach 18-19 at BlueBet Stadium.

The event will attract over 2,400 participants comprising players, officials and club leaders from all 24 feeder clubs across the greater Penrith district.

The conference is compulsory for all players, coaches and managers across the under-12s to under-15s age divisions.

“Junior rugby league is the lifeblood of the Penrith district for many kids and their families.

Rugby league provides a valuable opportunity for kids to be connected to the community and play the game in a safe protected environment,”

Panthers Rugby League CEO Matt Cameron said.

“The overarching aim of this conference is to bring meaningful education and awareness about the responsibilities of everyone involved in junior rugby league.

To ensure our game continues to grow and thrive in a positive culture of safety and inclusion where any type of negative and harmful behaviour is not tolerated.

We are thrilled to offer this revolutionary event again

Panthers Group and all our Junior club leaders and representatives are right behind this conference and our objectives of addressing behaviour change in regards to incidents on and off-field violence,

Promoting positive cultures and raising participation rates.”

The conference program will be presented and facilitated by Brogan Mulhall from ‘Panthers on the Prowl’, The Panthers Community Development program.

“Brogan was the obvious choice for this event.

Not only is he a diehard Panthers fan he has been a passionate supporter of youth work in the Penrith area for a number of years.

Brogan’s academic background in education, psychology and development combined,

With his 25 plus years of experience running programs both locally and internationally makes him our ideal leader on this one,” Cameron said.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of such a big event and the enormous energy that such big crowds will bring and filter back into their local clubs.

It’s also a great opportunity to bring some of the approaches and strategies that we use at Panthers on the Prowl to such great success, onto a different stage,” Mulhall said.

Young Panthers advance to Preliminary Final

Penrith Panthers are one game away from the Jersey Flegg Grand Final after ending St George Illawarra Dragons’ season with a fiery 36-26 victory at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday.

Returning to Jersey Flegg after a length stint in NSW Cup, Isaiah Iongi helped the Panthers claim a steady lead in the first half by setting up one try and scoring two.

But the Dragons entered the second half with new energy, throwing everything they had at the Panthers. A final minute try scored by halfback Keagan-Russell Smith kept the Panthers season alive as they adance to the Preliminary Final.

After Dragons prop Dallas Collins was penalised for a crusher tackle in the opening set, the Panthers took advantage of the possession and field position to set up a try in the second minute.

Keagan Russell-Smith placed a chip-kick over the Dragons line for his halves partner Niwhai Puru to ground in-goal. Puru converted his own try, giving Penrith a six-point advantage.

St George Illawarra were quick to respond through a Zach Herring line-break that put Benjamin Johnson over in the left corner.

Fullback Treigh Stewart couldn’t convert the try from touch, although the effort reduced Penrith’s lead to two.

A high tackle on Penrith centre William Fakatoumafi gave the Panthers another opportunity within close range.

Fullback Isaiah Iongi demonstrated his attacking talent, breaking two tackles before plowing through a third on the try line, where he grounded the ball.

Puru kicked the conversion from close-range to make the difference eight.

Once again Iongi provided the spark in attack, creating a try-scoring opportunity off the scrum by flicking winger Cody Lawson a pass, before he leaped into the corner to claim another four points for the Panthers in the 17th minute.

Puru’s conversion attempt from the sideline waved away.

Iongi claimed a first half double 11 minutes later, challenging the Dragons defence by reaching through the tackle to ground the ball on the line. In the same position as his last conversion attempt, Puru couldn’t find the uprights, so the score remained 16-4.

Niwhai Puru broke the St George Illawarra defensive line, offloading to his twin brother Hohepa to extend Penrith’s lead in the 30th minute. The five-eighth added the extras from close range to give the Panthers a significant lead.

An error off the restart gave the Dragons a chance to get back into the game.

Usuing the field position, Treigh Stewart drew in the defence before offloading to Callum Gromek who stepped inside to score. Sam Hooper couldn’t convert try from touch.

HALF-TIME: PANTHERS 26 – DRAGONS 8

Two minutes into the second half the Dragons capitalised off an overlap on the right edge overlap with Alex Lobb scooping up a loose ball to snag four points.

Hooper’s conversion cleared the posts, reducing the deficit to 12.

After Hohepa Puru was penalised and put on report for a dangerous tackle, St George Illawarra plotted their attack once more.

With their front rowers taking the majority of the hit-ups, they eventually found their way over through interchange forward Toby Couchman who spun around to find a space to ground the ball.

Hoper converted the try to make the score 26-20.

In similar fashion to Couchman’s try only three minutes earlier, Panthers second-rower Ativalu Lisati bulldozed through the Dragons defence, twisting around to put the ball down. Puru kicked the two-pointed to halt St George Illawarra’s building momentum.

Steward delivered Lobb a cut-out ball for the winger to claim a second-half double in the 55th minute to keep the Dragons in the game. Hooper converted the try to take to bring St George Illawarra within six points of the lead.

Defending for their season, the Panthers shut down repeat sets which eventually resulted in Stewart knocking the ball on two minutes before full-time.

A final minute try to Russell-Smith was the icing on the cake for Jono Rolfe’s team, who now progress to the preliminary final where they’ll face either the Newcastle Knights or Sydney Roosters.

Panthers produce thrilling comeback to win SG Ball title

Penrith Panthers have clawed back from a 20-0 half-time deficit to beat the Sydney Roosters 22-20, claiming the SG Ball Cup Grand Final at CommBank Stadium on Saturday.

With scores locked at 20-all with two minutes remaining, Keagan Russell-Smith landed a conversion from the sideline to give his side a memorable come-from-behind victory.
