Raiders ambassadors support Wheelchair Rugby League

Ahead of the first wheelchair rugby league come and try day of the year this Sunday, Canberra Raiders player ambassadors Tom Starling, Harry Rushton and Darby Medlyn are encouraging everyone to come along and give the sport a go.
The players had a spin on the wheelchairs at the Huawei Raiders Centre on Wednesday, promoting the all-inclusive sport.
CRRL Wheelchair Competitions Coordinator Jen Pilosio said that the players had fun and it’s great to see the sport grow.
“It was nice to see Darby, Tom and Harry have a spin in the chairs this week after training, I don’t think it was as easy as they expected!”, Pilosio said.
“The player ambassadors agreed that Wheelchair Rugby League is a great sport for all to get involved in as its all-inclusive and a great way to keep active and social, as anyone can participate, no matter the age, gender or level of skill and ability.”
The Come and Try Days are expected to draw attraction to our (CRRL) first Wheelchair Rugby League competition, aiming to start at the end of March this year.
The Autumn season will run from March to June, with the Spring season set to start in August. The matches will run on Sunday afternoons on a fortnightly basis.
Pilosio says that the aim is to create a bigger player base and attract interest across the region.
“Essentially we wish to become the central hub for all wheelchair rugby league talent in regional NSW, South Coast and the Canberra region,” Pilosio said.
“NRL Wheelchair have established an elite talent pathway for participants keen to play in representative competitions for their state in the State of Origin, and for Australia in the Wheelaroos team. But we also want to create that pathway for regional players too.”
“We encourage all people to get active and involved in our all-inclusive CRWRL competitions this year.”
The first Come and Try day will kick off from 2pm this Sunday 28th February at the Queanbeyan Indoor Sports Centre. Register for the event here.
