Western Sydney Airport partnership continues as NSW Wheelchair Rugby League recommences 2020 Competition
NSW Wheelchair Rugby League (NSWWRL) has two reasons to celebrate this September, with the announcement that Western Sydney Airport has renewed its partnership with the organisation for the 2020 competition and the recommencement of the 2020 competition after being sidelined temporarily by COVID-19.
This year’s partnership builds on Western Sydney Airport’s initial engagement with the sport of wheelchair rugby league, with players consulted about accessibility best practice for the design of Western Sydney International’s passenger terminal.
NSWWRL Chairman Edie George said he was very pleased to see Western Sydney Airport’s continuing support of the organisation at a time when the sport has been significantly impacted by COVID-19 restrictions.
“It is very pleasing to continue the Western Sydney Airport partnership in 2020 and to be able to re-start our NSW competition.
Our sport is an important avenue for people with disability and their families to build and support their physical and mental health. Our organisation has gone to great lengths to ensure that we can provide our players, officials and volunteers with a safe and accessible way to play the sport that they love.”
Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Scott MacKillop said Western Sydney Airport is proud to support NSW Wheelchair Rugby League.
“We want all passengers to have a fast and easy airport experience when they fly from Western Sydney International,”, Mr MacKillop said.
“Drawing on their own experience catching a plane, the players have provided us with valuable accessibility insights as we continue to design our passenger precinct.
“We’re pleased that our partnership with NSW Wheelchair Rugby helps highlight the strength and ability of players both on and off the field.”
The NSWWRL 2020 Competition recommenced at Menai Indoor Sports Centre on 13 September 2020.
