‘Push your Limits’ for International Day of People with Disability

NRL Wheelchair Rugby League (WRL) is supporting player Brad Grove who is showcasing his ‘Push your Limits’ fundraiser to celebrate 2021 International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

On Sunday 5 December Brad will feature in a special event at Sydney Olympic Park, competing a 10km plus push in his wheelchair, and he invites supporters to join him.

Brad, a representative player for WRL, says,

“I developed the ‘Push Your Limits’ project to raise money for our junior wheelchair rugby league players and assist with getting our community back on track after two years of interruptions.”

Inspired by his own journey back to the great outdoors and better wellbeing after the recent lockdown, he adds, “I really enjoyed my return to wheelchair pushes but I needed a motivation to continue.

I felt that WRL players and other wheelchair users could also do with some incentive – an enjoyable ‘push’ – to return to WRL or to the community in general.”

The project involves pushing his rugby league wheelchair 1,000km.

The initial fundraising aim is to reach $10k ($10/km), which will roughly provide 100 hours of court time for junior wheelchair rugby league.

As well as the International Day of People with Disability push, Brad’s program includes events around the country for the public to join in.

Martin Meredith Chair of NRL Wheelchair says, “We encourage footy fans and the Australian public to donate to the ‘Push your Limits’ project.

The funds raised will support our NRL wheelchair juniors to have training sessions, competitions and equipment that can help them to regain an active lifestyle and improve their wellbeing.”
