A tough weekend for the Monaro teams in the Andrew Johns Cup and Laurie Daley Cup competitions, with both sides going down in their semi-final clashes.
Andrew Johns Cup
The Central Coast Roosters proved too strong for the Monaro Colts, with an 18-0 win in very wet conditions at HE Laybutt Field in Sydney on Saturday.
The Roosters scored in the opening minute through their winger Noah Owens, for a 4-0 lead. The match turned into an arm wrestle for the rest of the first half, with neither team able to crack the other side’s defence.
But the Central Coast side came out firing after the half-time break, running in three tries to book a place in the grand final.
Laurie Daley Cup
The Monaro Colts fell just short to the Central Coast Roosters in their semi-final match, going down 12-6 at HE Laybutt Field in Sydney on Saturday.
The scores were locked at 6-6 in the second half before Roosters hooker Tyler Moriarty scored the match-winning try.
The Roosters were first on the scoreboard, with Moriarty crossing for his first try of the afternoon. Jessi O’Neill-Pethebridge successfully converted to give his side a 6-0 lead.
Monaro hit back just after half-time, with five-eighth Joshua Latham scoring a try and halfback Mitchell Evans adding the two points.
Both teams fought it out, but it was Roosters hooker Moriarty who scored with nine minutes to go, sealing a place in the grand final.
