Castleford Tigers under 19’s bounced back from last week’s defeat as they saw off Huddersfield Giants by 32 points to 16 at Lock Lane on Friday night.

Huddersfield got the game underway and forced an early penalty 20 metres from the line early on. Giants kept turning the screw and made a big push for the line as Marcus Garley had to be held up.

The visitors then forced the Fords into a drop out, however, as Kieran Rush made a burst for the line, the ball was ripped brilliantly off him by the Tigers defence.

After being on the back foot from the start, the Fords were then presented a good attacking opportunity as they broke forward with a quick tap and go.

They made the most of their opportunity as Charlie Harris sprinted over after being released 10 metres out. Oliver Robson was successful with his first kick of the night to add the two points.

Just a couple of minutes later and the hosts were clinical again to grab their second of the game.

A short ball popped up to Sam Hall allowed the prop to barge over from close in. Robson slotted his kick through the posts to give Castleford a 12-0 advantage.

Giants weren’t deterred by Cas going into a two try lead as they responded half way through the first half. A quick pick and go from Kieran Rush unlocked the Tigers defence and the stand off converted his own try.

Castleford then reasserted their dominance five minutes later as a quick shift to the left and a unbelievable ripped pass from Jason Qareqare allowed space for Josh Milthorpe to dive over by the corner flag.

Robson just sliced his conversion narrowly wide of the post from out on the touchline.

The hosts kept making the most of their opportunities by the try line as they captured two tries in quick succession to give them clear daylight.

Firstly it was Aaron Willis who touched down after a speculative high kick from Cain Robb bounced perfectly into the winger’s arms.

Ben Wood scores

It was then Ben Wood’s turn to get on the scoreboard. Hall released Harte with a quick pass and the #20 barged over to score. Robson placed his kick through the posts on both occassions.

Moments before half-time Giants were presented good field position after Robb was sent to the sin bin for a high shot.

Huddersfield punished Castleford as Jacob Beer cut in to score and Rush converted to take the scores to 28-12 as the teams went to the sheds.

The second half started with the hosts on top, although they couldn’t convert their chances as they knocked on twice near the goal line.

Giants then closed the scores eight minutes into the second 40 as they shifted the ball through the hands out to the right and Sol Tutin was the man to score for the visitors.

Rush couldn’t convert from out wide.

Castleford then had a good attacking spell without scoring with Hall going close to his second but was held up.

Qareqare was the creator again as he released Willis but the wing spilt forward as he dived for the line.

The next time they came forward, the Tigers converted.

A fantastic offload from forward Nathan Magee released the speedster Qareqare who made a rapid burst from 20 metres out to race over.

Robson missed the target with the conversion.

It turned into a slightly scrappy affair with around 15 minutes to go as both sides struggled to keep hold of the ball when attacking the oppositions’ goal line.

Robb was shown his second yellow card of the game 9 minutes from time after he tackled his man whilst on the floor.

However, that didn’t affect Castleford as they saw out the rest of the game to claim a brilliant win over the Giants.
